Sir,
I am directed to state, for the information of
Mr. Secretary Chamberlain, that the Postmaster General has
received from the Foreign Office a copy of a letter addressed
to that Department by the China League, advocating the
establishment of a British Post Office at Tientsin. A copy
of the same letter has, it appears, also been forwarded by
the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to the Colonial
Office.
The question of adding to the number of the Agencies
mentioned in China by the Hong Kong Post Office is not of
course one for the Postmaster General; but, on the assumption
that Mr. Chamberlain is considering it, he has caused
statistics of correspondence from the United Kingdom for
Chinese ports to be taken, and the result is sherm in the
accompanying tabular statement.
As Mr. Chamberlain is aware, the arrangement recently
concluded for penny postage between the United Kingdom and
Under Secretary of State
British
COLONIAL OFFICE.
